

On January 30, 2025, the vibrant city of Sunyani, Ghana, hosted an important event: the National Jubilee Celebration of Consecrated People. This significant occasion brought together a various gathering of religious figures, lay participants, and community members, all united in celebrating the vibrant role of consecrated life within the Church and society.
Among the participants were the Salesian novices and the broader Salesian community, who contributed to the joyful atmosphere with their youthful energy and charism. The event was enclosed as a renewal of vow for all consecrated religious, reflecting on their mission, vocation, and the impact they have within their communities.
A Historic Occasion
The National Jubilee Celebration marked a significant milestone in the Catholic Church’s recognition of the contributions of consecrated religious men and women in Ghana. It also accorded with the Year of Consecrated Life, a time designated by the Vatican to honour the commitment of those who have dedicated their lives to serving God and humanity.
The celebration kicked off with a solemn Eucharistic Mass, presided over by Rev. Paul Ennin SMA. In his homily, Fr. Paul emphasized the importance of consecrated life as a living witness to the Gospel, urging the gathered faithful to appreciate and support the work of religious communities in their local churches. He highlighted the prophetic nature of the mission carried out by these religious men and women, encouraging them to engage with the challenges of modern society while remaining rooted in prayer and community life.
Participation of the Salesians
The Salesian novices, who are in the process of formation, played an active role in the liturgical celebrations, serving as altar ministers and participating in choir. The Salesians, known for their work with the youth, brought a particular joy to the event, embodying the spirit of St. John Bosco, their founder, who dedicated his life to the education and evangelization of young people.
In addition to the solemn liturgy, the celebration featured various cultural presentations that showcased the rich traditions of Ghana’s diverse communities. Dance troupes and music groups performed. A clean-up morning was organized in the city to raise public awareness of environmental preservation.
